Angel Zlatanov is one of the most famous Bulgarian composers of the recent past.

He lived and worked in Ruse (Bulgaria). He published his first chess problem in 1953.

His favorite genres are threemovers and moremovers, but also works in other including studies.
He has published more than 200 compositions and more than half of them had been awarded, including 40 prizes (20 first).

Zlatanov is a big fan of the Czech school in composition and many of his problems are with model mates.

He has 11.5 points with publication of 12 compositions in the FIDE Albums

and thus lacks only half a point to get the title of FIDE Master for Chess Composition.

He graduated his higher education in Odessa where he met with some of the Ukrainian composers.

Then in the period 1980-1986 worked in Moscow where he befriended with many Russian composers

and have also some collective compositions with them.

In last years he worked in port authorities in Ruse as an expert of river transport.

In Ruse he lived with his wife and daughter Elena. 
The great Bulgarian composer died on 6.6.2010 after a long illness.
