Robert Fontana is born December 13, 1928 in Zurich.
As a 13-year-old, he published his first chess problem in the «Schweizerische Schachzeitung» (6/1942).
Only one year later followed his first endgame study.
Robert Fontana was also an excellent chess player.
During his long-term stays abroad as an employee of an import / export company, first in India and then in Singapore, he won some tournaments against strong local players.
After his return to Switzerland, Robert Fontana applied himself for some time with large effort to the complicated endgames of Queen and Rookpawn against Queen.
He composed a total of more than 60 endgame studies. Robert
Fontana died February 20, 2017 in a care home in Zurich.
