MEMORIAL TOURNEY MARIO GUIDO GARCIA, UAPA 2025
In memory of Mario García, the Union of Chess Problemists of Argentina announces a composition tournament in his honor.
The Argentinian's Union of Problems of Chess announces the tournament of composition MT Mario Guido García.
Chess was one of Mario's great passions. Not only did he participate in «major» category tournaments in Salta (Argentina) and join the provincial team in national and international competitions, but his greatest contribution to the chess world was as a composer. Starting in the 90s, he began to dedicate himself to the composition of problems and artistic endings, being recognized worldwide for his talent in this field. He published more than 1,000 compositions, which appeared in magazines and newspapers in Argentina, Brazil, the United States and Europe.
He was founder of the Union of Problemists «Arnoldo Ellerman», from where he promoted the art of chess, and ad honorem Director of the Chess School of the Province of Salta. He was also a chess columnist for the newspaper El Tribuno under the pseudonym «Alfil Blanco» and was part of the team of editors of the international magazine EG, in charge of analyzing award-winning studies in international tournaments.
His work has been included in Harold van der Heijden's prestigious database of artistic endings, and his legacy as an International Judge for Chess Art Composition is widely recognized.
