Franjo Vrabec is a Bosnian Swedish composer and is the endgame studies editor of StrateGems.

Franjo Vrabec was born in Banja Luka (Bosnia-Herzegovina). He graduated from the University of Sarajevo in 1976 as an Electronic Engineer.

He is currently working as a computer programmer for a company which produces industrial sewing machines.

Franjo published his first problem in 1972 and his first study in 1976 in Problem magazine.

He edited study sections in the magazines MAT (in the former Yugoslavia) and Tidskrift för Schack (Sweden).

He has participated in numerous solving competitons including being part of the national teams of Bosnia-Herzegovina and Croatia.

Franjo was also a studies judge for six tourneys.

When judging studies, the most important criteria for Franjo is the difficulty in solving.

His ideal study should immediately reveal difficulty White is having.

After one hour of fruitless solving, the solver would take a peak at the solution and sigh: ”Why didn‟t I think of that?”.

Franjo lives in Helsingborg, Sweden, with his wife Vesna.

His son lives in Geteborg, Sweden and his daughter in San Jose, California.
